In addition to serving as the state capitol of Texas, Austin is home to the University of Texas and boasts a vibrant live music and arts scene. Over the past few decades, the city has emerged as a center for technology and business with several Fortune 500 companies choosing to take up residency within the city limits. Although the city has undergone many positive changes over the past years, the street lighting fixtures were in need of some attention. To provide a stylish and energy-efficient upgrade, the city is performing a major renovation of nearly 35,000 outdated high pressure sodium (H.P.S.) fixtures. By installing new energy-efficient Streetworks Navion™ LED Roadway Luminaires from Cooper Lighting, the upgrade will help the city realize a yearly energy savings of more than $200,000.
The driving force behind the city wide update has been Austin’s Energy Efficient Street Light Evaluation process, which started earlier this year. Professionals evaluated luminaires from multiple lighting manufacturers over a three-month period. During that time, several factors, including fixture construction, efficacy, ease of installation and maintenance, and appearance were evaluated. As a result, Cooper Lighting’s Navion LED luminaires were selected as the ideal choice for this project.
An energy-saving solution for highways, local streets and other public spaces, Cooper Lighting’s Navion LED luminaire features rugged die-cast aluminum construction, long life and offers 30 to 70 percent energy savings when compared to typical H.I.D. luminaires. The luminaires combine superior optical performance with efficiencies as high as 95 percent and outstanding versatility with a choice of ten optical packages to meet the exact requirements of any roadway application. The product is available in two housing sizes with multiple lumen packages ranging from 3,600 to 22,000 lumens. The luminaires are easy to install with tool-less entry and designed to last up to 60,000 hours, or more than 16 years when on 10 hours daily use, while delivering uniform, warm, white light. Navion comes standard in a 4000K correlated color temperature (CCT) with and optional choice of 6000K and 3000K CCT.
“In addition to providing safety and security in the city of Austin, choosing LED solutions will also help save energy and cut overall costs for the city,” said Mark Eubanks, President, Cooper Lighting. “With their impressive illumination performance and overall modern styling, we know our Navion LED luminaires will be the perfect fit for this great city.”
