Seminar To Educate On How Proper Lighting Enhances Classroom Learning
August 7, 2008

On September 18 and 19, engineers, architects, lighting designers and other industry professionals will learn how they can enhance learning in the classroom during the Education Facilities Lighting Management for Quality & Sustainability Seminar at Day-Brite Capri Omega (DCO) Lighting Institute. The seminar will focus on how the lighting industry can provide a visual environment that is supportive of learning processes.

Educational expert Jim West will discuss how lighting educational spaces differs from other environments and address critical design factors including daylighting and controls, direct glare, horizontal and vertical illuminance and light distribution on surfaces and task planes. West, a nationally known speaker and author, is dean of the school of architecture, art & design at Mississippi State University.

The seminar will be held at DCO Lighting Institute's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified facility (LEED-CI), which is designed to educate visitors about the importance of good lighting and highlight the importance of energy conservation. The cost of the two-day seminar is $350 and participants will receive 8.0 AIA/CES education credits.

The Lighting Institute will accommodate 40 visitors for the seminar.
