The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has added a new microsite to complement its 2013 report, Assessment of Advanced Solid State Lighting. The report explores the history of public policy on lighting, evaluates costs and consumer acceptance issues, assesses the development of LED and OLED technologies, and examines SSL products, applications, and deployments — noting the potential for “lowering U.S. energy needs” and positioning the nation as “a significant solid-state lighting manufacturer and technology provider.”
In its report, NAS cites the importance of ongoing consumer education in building market acceptance of advanced lighting. With this microsite, NAS contributes a valuable tool to the cause of consumer education, providing a fast-and-easy primer on SSL and its energy-saving promise.
