The Designers Lighting Forum of New York (DLFNY), with support from the New York Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC), announces LEDucation IV.  Taking place on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in New York City, LEDucation IV is the premier lighting event dedicated to advancing the education of the lighting community.

More than 1,000 lighting design community members are expected to attend seminars led by leading industry luminaries to learn about vital topics ranging from OLED, microplasma and creative LED to protocols for enhancing video communication, graphics projecting through LED, and the latest LED quality standards.  Additionally, attendees will have an opportunity to see firsthand the lightning speed at which products have progressed by viewing the latest innovations on display at more than 70 LED, OLED, microplasma, and control manufacturer exhibits.

"The LEDucation event, now in its fourth year, is considered a key place to learn about what's next in the world of LED lighting," said Peggy Meehan, co-chair of LEDucation.  "We strive to deliver an event that helps designers, architects, engineers, and students alike advance their careers by presenting seminars that cover major developments in the industry and by providing a showcase for learning about next-generation technology."

The seminar "How to Successfully Utilize 'Creative LED' in the Architectural Market" will be conducted by LED pioneer Rick Buskens, product manager for Creative LED at Barco Media & Entertainment in Belgium.  Buskens will examine the evolution of Creative LED — including control, media server technology and physical integration — and how it has become a critical component integral to building design and systems integration. Attendees will take away a guideline of recommended practices based on the latest technology and design methods, and discover what's next on the horizon for Creative LED.

Daniel Chu, Ph.D., applications engineering manager at Osram Sylvania Solid State Lighting, and Andy Beregszaszi, director of engineering at Eden Park Illumination, will co-present a cutting-edge technical seminar.  Forward voltage and critical physics for LED fixture development will be covered by Dr. Chu as he examines "The Future of LED and OLED Technologies and Their Impact on the Lighting World."  Responsible for application development and engineering focused on the LED general illumination market, Dr. Chu has extensive knowledge and experience in LED, laser, lighting, display and fiber optics, and holds multiple patents in the United States and Asia. Beregszaszi will review new OLED and emerging microplasma technologies as part of his presentation "New Lighting Technologies: A Practical Look Forward."  Attendees will gain important insight on ways to avoid missteps when adopting new technologies as well as what the future holds for solid-state lighting.  A specialist in commercial development of new lighting technologies, Beregszaszi brought microplasma technology to a finished lighting system at Eden Park Illumination and developed new high-power LED packaging technologies at Lamina Lighting (now Lighting Science Group).  

Next-generation lighting expert Michael Myer will cover NGLIA results as he updates his audience on "Standards for an Emerging Technology." Myer has applied his vast expertise as an architectural lighting designer to his role as lighting engineer at Battelle/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he works on various programs such as analysis for light appliance standards  (HID Determination Rulemaking), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) alliances (Retailer Energy Alliance), and DOE Solid-State Lighting Commercialization.
