LFI Design Symposia Return To Showcase The Impact Of Light On All Industries
March 15, 2011

The Design Symposia, which premiered last year at the 2010 LIGHTFAIR International (LFI) as part of its renowned conference program, will return in 2011 with experts of affiliated industries to highlight the diversity of lighting design and how it is incorporated into industries across the spectrum.

An educational platform to showcase how other industries align with and are impacted by light and design, the Design Symposia will feature four 90-minute sessions. Each symposium will be presented by acclaimed professionals within the landscape, design and architecture industries. They will speak about the importance and impact of light on their design processes and projects.

The 2011 Design Symposia lineup is

•Why Paint the Landscape with Light?
Jan Moyer, design principal of Jan Moyer, will share her vision for landscape projects and how the lighting effects emerge and evolve in each composition. She will review LED developments and what is needed from an LED system in landscape lighting.

•Healing Light Therapy: Lighting Design for Health and Healing
Rosalyn Cama, FASID, EDAC, president of CAMA, will educate on the evidence-based knowledge for lighting design interventions that support the healing process with innovative uses of natural and artificial lighting. She will also discuss how the field of lighting design is poised to become a significant player in health reform.

•Museums in a New Light
Yann Weymouth, AIA, LEED AP, SVP of HOK, will provide insight on the basic components of modern museums and explain how the visitor experience now has added dimensions. He will show how the model of museum exhibition design is evolving as more natural light is being used and as museum design is becoming more sustainable.

•Biomimicry in Design and Planning: Intro and Application
Schmidtke, CID, ASID, LEED AP, Certified Biomimicry Professional, associate at Clark Nexsen Architecture and Engineering, will demonstrate how to use nature as a model, mentor and measure and will clarify how to approach design challenges using Biomimicry methodology. She will teach how to acquire the ability to measure the health and sustainability of designs.

The four featured Design Symposia will be held in conjunction with the LFI 2011 Conference program and will take place on Wednesday, May 18. Attendees are required to pre-register for the sessions.
