Power management company Eaton today announced that the McGraw-Edison TopTier™ light-emitting diode (LED) Parking Garage and Canopy Luminaire and Galleon LED Area Luminaire from its Cooper Lighting Division have been recognized in the 2013 Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Outdoor Competition. The prestigious competition, which recognizes and promotes excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED commercial lighting luminaires, also awarded the TopTier luminaire the additional designation of Best in Class.
“Our team has worked hard to develop high-quality, efficient solutions that allow our customers to not only provide ample lighting, but also save on total installed cost,” said Mark Eubanks, president of Eaton’s Cooper Lighting Division. “This recognition is validation of that hard work and further proof that our lighting solutions stand out in this competitive market.”
Since its inception in 2008, the competition has strived to make it even easier for lighting designers and specifiers to select LED products by identifying and awarding those that deliver superior lighting quality. Products are awarded honors based on the results of judging from industry-leading organizations such as the U.S. Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and the International Association of Lighting Designers, which sponsor the competition.
To earn accolades in the competition, products must excel in several areas, including quality, performance, appearance, serviceability and value, as well as meet energy efficiency requirements. The extensive submission and judging process requires manufacturers to meet stringent documentation requirements that validate all performance and life claims to help ensure actual performance matches each claim. Products are submitted and installed in their appropriate applications for judges to evaluate their performance and appearance.
The TopTier and Galleon luminaires are among a group of only 68 judged of the 102 products submitted with 26 of the products recognized as winners for their excellence in a total of 12 outdoor lighting categories. TopTier was one of only six honored with a Best in Class designation. The Best in Class designation recognizes products that stood out significantly above others in its category.
