Architectural Lighting Editor Elizabeth Donoff Receives IESNYC 2009 Brilliance Award
July 12, 2009

Hanley Wood Business Media is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Donoff, editor of Architectural Lighting, has received a 2009 Brilliance Award from the Illuminating Engineering Society New York City Section (IESNYC) for dedicated service and contribution to the New York City Lighting Community. The award was presented before an audience of more than 600 industry leaders in lighting design, architecture, interior design, engineering, and manufacturing at the 41st Annual Lumen Award Gala held June 10 in New York City. "Elizabeth plays an important part in our industry and in keeping our section news and activities in the limelight," says Randy Sabedra of RS Lighting Design, past Section president and current Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committee. "It is a tremendous honor to receive this award and be recognized by the New York lighting community in this way," says Ms. Donoff.

Ms. Donoff joined the Architectural Lighting editorial team in 2003. In her capacity as editor, Ms. Donoff has moderated several panel discussions at lighting industry events including the Town Hall meeting at the International Association of Lighting Designers' 2007 Enlighten Conference. Most recently, Ms. Donoff organized the Editor's Roundtable at Lightfair 2009, an Architectural Lighting initiative, which brought together the editors of Architectural Lighting, LD+A, PLD, MondoArc, Illuminate, and Architectural SSL to discuss the editorial process and the editorial missions of each publication.

Ms. Donoff has also served as an IESNYC Lumen Award judge twice — in 2006 and again this year. In 2006 Ms. Donoff, also co-curated Light Energy Impact: The Legacy of Richard Kelly, an exhibit co-sponsored by the Center for Architecture in New York and the IESNYC, which examined the relationship between architecture and lighting as illustrated by Kelly's work.

Prior to her entry into design journalism, Ms. Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices, including FXFowle, where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at 3 Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. Ms. Donoff received her Bachelor of Arts from Bates College and her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
