On November 16, more than 260 experts from the lighting, semiconductor, and IT industries gathered in Portland at DOE's inaugural Connected Lighting Systems Meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to share perspectives and lay the groundwork for government/industry collaboration on the convergence of intelligent controllable light sources, communication networks, sensors, and data exchange in future lighting systems.
The room was packed and the atmosphere was electric, as expert speakers sparked cross-cutting discussions on how best to take advantage of the imminent collision between advanced lighting systems and the fast emerging Internet of Things. These discussions and attendee feedback will guide DOE planning in the coming months, which will include a follow-on meeting in June (details to come).
